So, I said I was probably falling out of the cosplay scene.
Thus far, I've completed several new projects, and have several others in teh workages:
~Opening of Wit's End Studios: EGL stuffies!
~A "HOLY CRAP! LIONS! Tours" bus made completely out of cardboard and ducttape (look for it at AUSA; my friend Emily and I got REALLY bored one day). It's from the flash animation "Kenya," which can be found HERE
~Rinoa Heartilly (FFVIII). Still have to finish the skirt but 99.9% of it is done.
~Alyssa Hamilton from Clock Tower 3. FINALLY DONE.
~Finally assembled my ghettastic Reno (AC version)
~Did a quick Elena costume for one of my friends.
~The wings for my Wedding Yuna dress
~My dad's Auron costume for AUSA
~Dion Rogers Rinoa design for my friend Claire
~Yukari original design based on the blue dress from Paradise Kiss
~Tifa (FFVII version)
~Tailoring my Advent Children inspired Aerith Wallmarket.
~Tailoring my Slytherin uniform skirt
Plan on making:
~Fuu from Samurai Champloo
~Original EGL dresses
~Aerith, Advent Children
~Summoner Yuna remake (I'm keeping certain parts of my costume, such as the sleeves, the Crest of Yevon, and the earring, but everything else is getting a major overhaul)

I recently just finished my Halloween costume, Aerith from Kingdom Hearts. The dress was a pain in the butt since I was lazy and didnt make a muslin mock-up (a lesson learned, ALWAYS make a mock-up) and just draped the fabric on my dressform and made the dress from there. It looked horrible at first and had many different seams that didn't seem to work right. I ended up with what I have, which isn't too bad but it's not great.
The belt was my moment of genious. The studs are the covers to covered buttons and theyre hot glued on. The belt peice itself required a bit of thinking. I dont like the whole "fabric" belt look and originally wanted a peice of plastic that I could paint, but I also had a budget to consider and I didn't know where to look. Then an idea occurred to me. I had some leftover translucent vinyl from my Techno costume and decided to paint it. At first I was skeptical since it looked odd with all the brush marks. I was about to scrap the whole thing until I turned it over. The paint was perfectly even on the bottom and had a nice matte finish since the vinyl was see through. I had just enough to make the belt. Perfect :) Then I just ran some topstitching around it for effect.
The hair braid is entirely extentions that I painstakenly added onto my ponytail. I pulled my hair into a pigtail then braided my own hair into 10 or so mini-braids. Then I inserted the "hot glue nub" at the end of my rope braid into my ponytail and wrapped my tiny braids around the base. Then the whole thing was covered with the red bow.
The boots are just Ugg-look alikes XD
I still need my bracelet.
I still havent quite gotten the bangs figured out yet which is why I only have a back shot.
More pics will be coming this weekend, but I do have this one: http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=511703

Dude, my costume is coming out rather well...still have some things to sew, but damn, I got my wig in the other day, and I spent last night dying it. Got my bathroom and my hands a pretty blue-green, but damn my wig is working out rather well! I have found the best way to dye it with the Sharpie mix: Mist it. Don't soak it, DOn't saturate it. Just mist it. Don't get discouraged if it turns out really light or has streaks the first time...it will need several coats. Keep working on it. Mist, let it dry, mist again, let it dry...repeat until you have the desired color. Let it dry for several hours, then carefully rinse out. I am very happy with the results so far. I am on my third coating of dye and I am going to try up to 5.
Well, I will update later, need to get going. Laters!!!

Thank you all!!!
Just wanted to say thanks to those who gave me the idea for dying my wig. The results are incredible, and the way it turned out, it seems to have natural highlights. It turned out beautifully.
I only have one other concern.
I need to style it, and I don't want the dye to come off. What would be a good thing to shape and style it? The style I want it in is in the picture that you see here...The Dartz picture. Yeah, challenging, it is. That is why I ask for help.
Thanks again for the dye idea! Current Mood: accomplished

I've been feeling very uninspired to do cosplay recently. I don't know what's going on with me, but I just don't feel like doing any anime or video game characters as of late. I really want to do Emily from Corpse Bride, but since my recent costumes have come out so lackluster, I need a way to make this costume AMAZING if I plan on doing it. I'm on a ridiculously small budget, though. Does anyone have any good suggestions for really inexpensive materials for the skirt, and does ANYONE know what I would use for the base for a yarn wig?

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!
COSPLAYER IN DISTRESS!!!
I need to know what kind of DYE will dye 100% acrylic wigs. I have a 60 inch acrylic godiva wig on the way for a halloween costume, and I need to dye it a light blue-green. I have tried Special Effects, RIT dye and even food coloring. NOTHING works. PLEASE! If you have any ideas that would work, PLEASE respond! I need to know before halloween, so I can dye it.
Please help me if you can!
Thank you to whoever can help! Current Mood: anxious

Greetings from a Procastinator :D
Hi everyone! My name's Erica and I'm from the Blackstone Valley area (sometimes I think that I'm Bostonian). I just started cosplaying this year and I had so much fun doing it. But my big problem is that, like the the subject line says, I procrastinate... a lot. Okies, now onto some current project stuff (Hope none of you mind the list-ness of it).Character-Series:
Sanji (Alabasta robes)- One PieceDebut:
Anime Boston 2006 (yeah, starting early on this one)References:
They're huge, so they're behind a cut. If they don't show up, let me know.( Reference image #1: Front, Back, AngleCollapse )( Reference image #2: Overhead Shot, Gives a Good Idea on the ColorsCollapse )Progress Made:
So far I bought a pattern (McCall's #m2339) and the trim for the collar. I'll use the shoes I wore with my Turk Vincent.Stuff I Need to Do:
Re-sketching the costume pieces, getting fabric, altering pattern, dyeing fabric, etc.Costume Problem:
(so far) For the robe material, I was thinking of using Jersey/T-shirt knit and lining it with broadcloth or another thin material unless there is a better way to do it. Current Mood: giddy

Saki_b here! I'm a cosplayer in the Rhode Island/Massachusetts area. I've only been cosplaying for a little over a year, but I'm a hard working newbie, I swear XD
Working (still) on my original Queen of Hearts. It's a biotch, cause I'm running into the all-too-familiar problem of lack of proper/any funds.
First I suppose a picture is under order!( Yay for retarded paint skillsCollapse )
Well, the red is red rayon velvet, and the black is black satin.
So far, I've only really started on the corset. The black hearts are every other panels, and I've got the velvet sewn completely together, and I've done about half the black hearts. I've just come to a rut, a wall if you will... Severe lack of motivation -_-
I still need to buy boning, install the boning, finish the hearts, sew up the lining, buy more velvet, and make the entire skirt.
Not to mention I have to design a crown and jewelry and then proceed to make them -_-
I wish I had a camera so I could take progress pictures, but alas, I do not... But I'm pleased with how it's coming out. Current Mood: lazy
Hey everyone! This is my first post in cosplaymotivation, and I think this is going to be a really cool community. :3 I know that I'm totally stressing to finish my Chii costume before Reactor 05, and it's getting even more tough because I'm making my homecoming dress. :3
What I've done so far: The skirt, the bodice, chii ears, neck choker, and the fishnet panty hose.
What NEEDS TO BE DONE!: Get SHOES! Get wig, do armband thingies, and finish that stupid lolita crown. >.<
Why I can't do stuff: I don't have any money. >.<
This is what I'm making:
( Everyone say it with me now: CHIIIII~!?Collapse )
Looking forward to cosplay fun~

Progress Post 1
Hi, I'm ChibiRinoa and I've been cosplaying for about 4 years. I have a couple of projects started, but the one I'll be finishing for Halloween is secret so I can't post about it here :) However I will list the costume I'll be starting after that.
Character Reisz from Seiken Densetsu 3
Con to debut at Katsucon 12
What I've done so far So far I've done two mock-ups for the main dress peice using altered patterns and drafted peices. I've also done some research on the wig.
Problems I've encountered I'm having some problems getting the front of the dress to stay closed and achieving the desired drape of the "petals" on the skirt. I'm hoping that if I incorporate some lightweight boning into the top it will help shape the garment correctly
. [Unknown LJ tag]( Here is the costumeCollapse )
